Peter W. Hughes, a lifelong resident of Mount Kisco, died peacefully at home on February 22, 2021. Peter was born on July 5, 1931 to the late Victor A. and Ann Finnegan Hughes. 2020 Refuses to Go Out Quietly - New Year's Eve Stubburn Tire Fire

At 8:53 PM on New Year's Eve the Mt. Kisco Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to North Bedford Road for a report of tires on fire next to a structure. First arriving units found a 40ft trailer full of used tires on fire. The trailer was located within feet of a 2 story commercial structure. A working fire was transmitted (10-75). Working Car Fire on South Bedford Road

On November 25th @ 1:15pm Station 3 was dispatched to a possible vehicle at 110 South Bedford Road. Chief Hughes (Car 2281) was first to arrive on scene. He reported that he had a well involved vehicle fire. Engine 105 and Utility 13 along with Rescue 31 from Station #1 took in this alarm. MKFD Remembers 9/11/2001

On September 11th MKFD joined by area mutual aid departments, assembled at our memorial. Nineteen years later we did “NOT FORGET” attendees were in face masks!!! 2020 has been a difficult year. Background:
The Independent Fire Company is an all-volunteer fire company with approximately 65 members. The company is one of four that make up the Mount Kisco Volunteer Fire Department. The other three companies are the Union Hook & Ladder Co #1, the Mutual Engine & Hose Co #1 and the Mount Kisco Rescue & Fire Police.
The Mount Kisco Volunteer Fire Department covers approximately 3 square miles, half of which in the Town / Village of Mount Kisco proper, and the other half is made up of sections of the Town of New Castle and the Town of Bedford. The M.K.F.D. protects a population of approximately 18,000 people.
