First Snowfall of Winter Season Brings with it an MVA with Extrication on Route 128
By Captain Eric Hartmann
January 18, 2007
On the day of the first real snowfall of the season, at 16:54, Engine 105 and Rescue 15 were dispatched to a Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) with possible extrication. The location was reported to be on Route 128 between Sheather Road and Roseholm Place. Chief Hardy (2281) was first on scene and report the location of the accident as the middle of the hill between Sheather and Roseholm. He informed responding units that this was a side swipe, two vehicle accident and extrication would be needed on one of the two vehicles involved. E-105 was instructed to pull past the accident and leave room for the Rescue 15. The crew of Engine 105, under the Direction of Captain Hartmann, stretched a precautionary 1 3/4" line while other members assisted with vehicle stabilization. The crew of Rescue 15, using the "Jaws", quickly and efficiently removed the driver's door. This allowed the removal of the female patient by the crew of Mt. Kisco Volunteer Ambulance. The patient was transported to Westchester Medical Center. All units cleared shortly after the patient being transported.
