John A Marshall Jr. Obituary April 2020

John “Jack” A. Marshall Jr. 90, passed away peacefully of natural causes on the evening of Friday April 24, 2020.

Jack was born to Elizabeth M. and John A. Marshall Sr. on January 10, 1930 at Northern Westchester Hospital in Mount Kisco, New York.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 68 years, Eva T. Marshall; their beloved children Jane Pieragostini and husband Charlie, John A. Marshall III and wife Gail; his adoring grandchildren, to whom he was known as “Two Dad,” Leigh-Ann Grasso and husband Keith, Brian Pieragostini and fiancé Christine, Andrew and Sarah. To his great-grandchildren, Gianna and Vincent Grasso, he will be sorely missed. Jack is also survived by his two sisters, Elaine Fish and Barbara Errickson.

Jack was a lifelong member of the Mount Kisco community and his contributions and service were endless.

In 1948, Jack graduated from Mount Kisco High School and shortly thereafter, he met the love of his life, Eva, at the Goody Shop. They were married in the chapel of St. Francis of Assisi church on September 2, 1951 and remained devoted to one another, until his passing, for 68 years.

Jack served in the United States Marine Corp and was honorably discharged with the rank of corporal in 1949. From there he served in the Army Reserve until 1953. He was honorably discharged and was awarded the Army of Occupation Medal to recognize his service in Germany.

Upon returning from military service, Jack went to work for his father at J.A. Marshall Sheet Metal Inc. on Maple Avenue in Mount Kisco. Jack became the second generation owner of the family business and after many years of hard work, he became a retiree of Sheet Metal Workers Local Union 38.

As a veteran, Jack was an active member and chaplain of the American Legion Moses Taylor Jr. Post 136. He was a dedicated member of the Mount Kisco Independent Fire Company for 71 years. He served the Independent Fire Company as captain, president and fire commissioner where he proudly served as chairman. Jack was a long-standing member and past-president of the Mount Kisco Rotary Club. In addition, Jack found time to serve on various committees, including the Mt. Kisco Housing Authority.

Faith has been a cornerstone in Jack's life. Jack, a lifelong parishioner at St. Francis of Assisi, served on the Parish Council and volunteered his time and expertise to service the buildings and grounds.

His true passions were equally devoted to his family, close circle of lifelong friends, and to the brotherhood of firefighters. His devotion to all was unmatched. Jack was well- travelled and enjoyed cruises to many parts of the world. He also enjoyed trips to the Cape and to the shore with the “Hummers and Tweeters” and was known for his sense of humor and charismatic personality.

Jack was also known for his artistic capabilities and enjoyed creating metal sculpture, stained glass and painting. In addition, he spent countless hours among his fellow senior citizens and friends sharing his artistic talents at the Fox Center in Mount Kisco. When not tinkering and puttering, Jack could often be found, in his younger years, fishing at Byram Lake, and in later years, at the family lake house in the Berkshires.

As the patriarch of the Marshall family, he will be missed immensely. He will not only be remembered for his dedication to family, friends and community; but for his bright smile, big laugh and jovial personality. The family finds comfort in knowing that Jack has joined his brother firefighters and dear friends who have gone before him.
