The Swarm swarms Westchester County Airport
By Captain Eric Hartmann
December 9, 2007
Early Sunday morning members of the Independent Fire Company participated in an airport familiarization drill. These training sessions were setup by Westchester County Fire Control, to allow local fire Departments the ability to become familiar with the operations of Westchester County Airport. The main focus of the training is how the airport and surrounding fire department should respond to an incident involving an aircraft. We were given a tour of the entire airport complex, which included the Traffic Bridge, airport fire fighting equipment, numerous different aircraft, emergency response staging area, airport snow removal equipment etc. While being shown the different aircraft, we were instructed on the recommend fire fighting and rescue techniques.
The member of the Independent Fire Company, who attended the drill, would like to thank the members of Airport Operations for the tour and training. We all found it interesting and informative.
