PPWA in Lake George for HVVFA Convention
By Firefighter James Tipa, Jr
June 19, 2010
On Saturday June 19th the PPWA (Professional Parade Watchers Association) was upstate in the Adirondack Mountains viewing the HVVFA (Hudson Valley Volunteer Firemen's Association) parade in Lake George. Many members went up earlier in the week for other HVVFA festivities. Members spent their time golfing, swimming, and of course parade watching! The PPWA is formed of members of the Independent Fire Co. The PPWA pitched their tents next to friends from the Village of Mamaroneck Fire Department. The parade in Lake George this year contained over 140 volunteer fire companies and over 3,500 volunteer firefighters which made for a good three to four hour parade. The parade was lead by a Westchester County fire department (Ossining FD) and won by a Westchester FD (Montrose FD-Cortland Eng. Co.) The parade also had many drum corps and other musical units. It was a beautiful warm day in the Adirondacks and a wonderful time was had by all.
