IFCO Responds to Wires Down on Grove Street
By Firefighter James Tipa, Jr
March 22, 2010
On Monday morning March 22nd the Independents responded with the Rescue Fire Police to 41 Terrace Place and Grove Street for wires down. On arrival the FD crews came upon wires down and burning on the sidewalk with the power lines burning closely to a parked pickup truck. With the wires still energized the FD could only standby as they awaited the arrival of Con Edison Electric. On Con Edison's arrival they shut the power to a portion of the Mount Kisco electrical grid causing the loss of power to customers from the Northern Westchester Hospital to sections of Northern Mount Kisco. When the power had been shut off to the wires the members of IFCO doused the burning power lines and cooled off the melting sidewalk. After picking up from Terrace Place and Grove Street the MKFD responded to 47 West Hyatt Avenue at the Mount Kisco Elementary School for an odor of smoke inside and outside of the school. After an investegation of the building the FD had concluded that the odor of smoke was from the burning wires nearby on Grove Street. The MKFD went back into service and returned to their quarters.
