| The Independent Fire Company of Mount Kisco celebrated its 100 year anniversary over the course of an October weekend last year, which featured an elaborate clam bake at the firehouse and formal dinner followed by morning brunch at the Mount Kisco Country Club. Our anniversary celebration followed more than a year of fund raising and event planning by our members, including the selling of engraved bricks to replace the concrete walkway and slate entry into the firehouse. During the preparation for our anniversary, bricks were purchased by members, family members, friends, surrounding fire departments, and local businesses. Thor Johannessen Sr. and Peter Hughes Jr. headed up the brick committee and facilitated the purchasing and engraving of the bricks. Brick purchasing order forms were circulated and requests for personalized bricks were reviewed and sent to our brick engravers, "Written in Stone" located in New Jersey. The centerpiece of our walkway, a 2' x 2' piece of granite engraved with the Independent Fire Company logo, was graciously donated by C.J. Schermerhorn of C.J. Stone located in Bedford. More than a year of planning came together last weekend as members of the Independents replaced the walkway in front of the firehouse with our commemorating bricks. The Independent Fire Company has been at its location on Lexington Avenue since 1959 with no major renovations to the outside of our building since the enclosure of the porch overlooking Lexington Avenue. |
