Passing of Ex-Chief William A Stewart

It Is with deep regret we announce the passing of Ex-Chief William A Stewart. Bill passed away in the evening on Thursday April 11th. Bill (Chummy) was a true volunteer, and dedicated member of the Independent Fire Company for 67 years. Bill loved the firehouse and being involved and was a great fire Chief. He will be missed by all.

William A. Stewart, Sr., 86, of Mt. Kisco, passed away on April 11th, 2019. He was born on December 27th,1932, in Mt. Kisco to Margaret (Hughes) and Robert Stewart. Beloved husband of Joan Fox Stewart. Loving father of William Jr. (Linda), Margaret Brittingham (Gerry), James (Higgins), John (Duskie) and Ellen Rigano (Chip). Loving Poppy of nine grandchildren. Survived by his sister-in-law Pat Reilly and several loving nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his siblings Jane and Robert.

He retired as president of Thomas Fox and Son Caterers and served as a 67-year member of the Mt. Kisco Independent Fire Company and Chief of the Mt. Kisco Fire Department (1992-1993). A 68-year member of the Mt. Kisco Fire Department Ancient Fife and Drum Corps. Named Mt. Kisco Citizen of the Year in 1993. Honorably discharged veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War. A graduate of Mt. Kisco High School, Paul Smith’s College and Denver University. A member of Mt. Kisco Rotary Club and was a three-time Paul Harris Fellow. A member of the Mt. Kisco Historical Society, Memorial Day Parade Committee, Company of Fifers and Drummers, and the Westchester County Association of Fire Chiefs. He was an usher and lifelong parishioner of St. Francis of Assisi Church. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Independent Fire Company or St. Francis of Assisi Church.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Bill at St. Francis of Assisi Church 2 Green Street Mt. Kisco, NY on Tuesday April 16th 2019 at 10:00am Burial will follow at St. Francis Cemetery Mt. Kisco
