On Tuesday August 17th the Independent Fire Co. and the Rescue Fire Police held a joint drill on car extrication and car fire operations at the Mount Kisco DPW. This drill consisted of using extrication equipment: Jaws of Life, cutters, and spreaders. Firefighters also learned how to properly crib and stabilize a car to extricate a patient. This training helps train firefighters how to quickly stabilize a vehicle and how to quickly and safely extricate a victim at car accidents. After getting time to cut glass, tear off car doors, and turn these vehicles into convertibles the firefighters practiced putting out car fires. Putting out car fires is a highly dangerous task due to the boiling liquids, pressurized pistons, and exploding tires when a car is on fire. Firefighters worked on hose line operations to stay familiarized and stay safe while extinguishing car fires. This was a great learning experience for firefighters and a great way for members of IFCO and the Rescue Fire Police to work together. A special thanks to the Pucila family who donated the car allowing firefighters to train and better prepare themselves to respond to these real life situations.
